Abstract

This study looks at the potential of insects as a sustainable food and feed source in light of the challenges posed by an increasing global population and environmental impacts from conventional livestock farming. It points out that different species of insects are rich in proteins, essential amino acids, healthy fats, and micronutrients which makes them suitable for human consumption as well as animal feed. The paper also discusses environmental benefits associated with insect farming such as reduced land use, lower water usage, decreased greenhouse gas emissions, and upcycling of organic waste thus contributing to a circular economy within food production systems. In addition, it talks about scaling up challenges like consumer acceptance or regulatory frameworks around this industry.
