Performance of Herbicide Regimes on Weed Control, Growth and Yield of Transplanted Rice (Oryza sativa L.)

Abstract

In transplanted rice, uncontrolled weed infestation poses a significant impact on productivity, causing substantial yield losses by competing for resources. This study evaluated the effect of various weed management practices on growth, yield attributes and yield. The treatments included, T1 (Absolute Weedy check), T2 (Two Hand weedings), T3 (Pyrazosulfuron 150 g a.i. ha-1 PE), T4 (Ethoxysulfuron 25 g a.i. ha-1 PE), T5 (Azimsulfuron 30 g a.i. ha-1 POE), T6 (Penoxsulam 25 g a.i. ha-1 POE), T7 (Pyrazosulfuron 150 g a.i.  ha-1 + Azimsulfuron 30 g a.i. ha-1), T8 (Pyrazosulfuron 150 g a.i. ha-1 + Penoxsulam 25 g a.i. ha-1), T9 (Ethoxysulfuron 25 g a.i. ha-1+ Azimsulfuron 30 g a.i. ha-1), T10 (Ethoxysulfuron 25 g a.i. ha-1 + Penoxsulam 25 g a.i. ha-1). The higher plant height, panicle length (cm), filled grains panicle-1, test weight (g), grain yield (44.8 q ha-1) and straw yield were found in T2 (Two Hand weeding) closely followed by T9 (Ethoxysulfuron 25 g a.i. ha-1 PE + Azimsulfuron 30 g a.i. ha-1 POE) which yielded 43.4 q ha-1. Both T2 and T9 resulted in significantly superior grain and straw yield compared to the absolute weedy check (T1) demonstrating the critical importance of effective weed management for optimizing rice productivity.
