A Case Report on a Rare Diagnosis: Kikuchi’s Disease (Kikuchi-Fujimoto Disease)

Abstract

Kikuchi’s disease (Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease) is a rare, self-limiting condition characterized by necrotizing lymphadenitis, typically affecting young women, although it can also present in men. All basic investigations were initially inconclusive. On further workup, CT scan showed enlarged lymph nodes raising our suspicion. Biopsy was performed, and histopathology showed necrotizing lymphadenitis. Immunohistochemistry confirmed the diagnosis of Kikuchi’s disease. The patient was treated and eventually discharged in stable condition. This case highlights the importance of considering Kikuchi’s disease in the differential diagnosis of young adults with fever, lymphadenopathy, and weight loss. Timely diagnosis through histopathological and immunohistochemical examination is crucial to avoid unnecessary interventions and ensure appropriate management.
