Abstract
Aim: This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of propofol anaesthetic on the physiological responses in rabbit model in mid gestation (GD18) period. Methods: Fourteen rabbits, 7 pregnant and 7 nonpregnant were used in this study. Both groups were induced propofol anaesthetic intravenously maintained for 90 min by constant I.V infusion rate (1mg/kg/min). Measurements of the parameters were performed before and after induction of anaesthesia for pregnant and nonpregnant rabbits. Results: The RR and HR decreased significantly (P 0.05) after propofol anaesthesia in pregnant and nonpregnant rabbits. The PCV, Hb and erythrocytes values were significantly (P<0.05) lower after propofol anaesthesia in both groups. Interactions between pregnancy and propofol anaesthesia indicated a decrease in RR, PCV, MCV and increases in PT, serum levels of Na+, K+, plasma Osmolality, LDH and CPK enzymes. Conclusions: The studies provide evidence that pregnancy induces variable alterations in blood profiles in anaesthetized rabbits.
