Agriculture in India faces complex and evolving challenges that require innovative strategies beyond traditional extension approaches. Digital technologies—particularly Information and Communication Tools (ICT)—present significant opportunities to enhance farmers’ knowledge, decision-making, and access to timely information. This study assessed the ICT training priorities of farmers in Tirupathur district, Tamil Nadu. Proportionate random sampling was used to select 120 respondents across ten villages, and data were collected through a structured interview schedule. Descriptive statistics and weighted ranking techniques were applied to analyze the training requirement data. Findings revealed strong demand for practical digital skills, particularly in the use of mobile applications (91.67%), internet search techniques (88.33%), app-based information access (86.67%), and database management (77.50%). Moderate requirements emerged for information downloading (80.00%) and basic computer operation (67.50%). Lower training needs were identified for services such as the Kisan Call Center (35.00%), app installation (25.00%), Android smartphone handling (29.17%), and access to Agricultural Expert Systems (15.83%). The minimal proportion of respondents reporting no training needs indicates a high willingness to participate in ICT capacity-building initiatives. Overall, the results highlight the pivotal role of ICT in strengthening agricultural extension and accelerating the dissemination of scientific knowledge to farming communities. These insights can guide policymakers, extension agencies, and training institutions in designing tailored ICT training programs to bridge digital divides and support technology-enabled agricultural development.
