Social Work in Assisting Children and Their Families with Autism Spectrum Disorders in Vietnam

Abstract

Social work is an emerging profession in Vietnam, and it is making significant progress. Similar to almost every country, there has been an increasing number of autism spectrum disorders (ASD), which poses a serious issue in Vietnam. The primary research objective is to thoroughly examine how social work supports children with autism and their families in Vietnam by analyzing and interpreting data from current empirical studies. This study consists of three main sections. The authors first explore the development of social work education and practices in response to the increasing challenges experienced by children with autism and their families. Second, researchers identify the roles of social work experts and practitioners in delivering services to children with ASD and their families. Third, the authors investigate the difficulties encountered by social workers in the autism sector. This paper concludes with a discussion of the underlying issues related to social work education and practices in engaging with the autism sector.
