The new Heterocyclic Schiff base ligand Co (II) and Zn (II) complexes. The Schiff base ligand derived from 2-amino-4-hydroxy-6-methylpyrimidine and 2-Hydroxy-5-chlorobenzaldehyde to form Schiff base (L) was synthesized and characterized by IR and electronic spectroscopy, melting points, percentage of metal analysis, conductance, and magnetic susceptibility measurements. The IR spectra indicated that the Schiff base (L) coordinated with the metal ions using the N donor atom of mine and the O donor atom of the naphthalene moieties. The percentage metal analysis, room temperature magnetic moment, and electronic spectroscopy showed that the complexes assumed an octahedral geometry. The complexes' non-ionic character was validated by the molar conductance measurements in DMSO. The Schiff base and its heteroleptic metal complexes demonstrated outstanding antifungal and antibacterial activity against Aspergillus niger, Penicillium chrysogenum, Fusarium moneliforme, and Aspergillus flavus, as well as against Salmonella typhi, Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, and Escherichia coli. The outcome showed that the complexes had strong antibacterial and antifungal properties.
