An Update on Laparoscopic Inguinal Hernia Repairs: Narrative Review

Laparoscopic inguinal hernia repairs have seen an increasing trend in the management of inguinal hernias. The Transabdominal preperitoneal (TAPP) and the Total Extra Peritoneal (TEP) are the two most common procedures that are performed. They are performed for primary, recurrent, and bilateral inguinal hernias. They, however, require special equipment and training, and these procedures have a steep learning curve. We have undertaken this review to investigate the Transabdominal preperitoneal (TAPP) and Total Extraperitoneal (TEP) repair, looking at its advantages and disadvantages. We will compare both these procedures against the open inguinal repairs and look at the role of robotic inguinal hernia repair.
