Aim: The aim of this study was to find out the resistant rice cultures through screening against BPH under field and glass house conditions. Study Design: Field screening was carried out in RBD design with two replications whereas glass house screening was done by following Standard Seed box Screening Technique (SSST). Place and Duration of Study: The research work was carried out at Regional Agricultural Research Station (RARS), Warangal, PJTAU during Kharif 2024. Methodology: A set of 40 promising advanced rice cultures were collected from Rice Section, RARS, Warangal and those lines were screened against BPH along with resistant and susceptible checks BM-71 and TN-1 respectively under field and glass house conditions. In field the rice cultures were scored using the standard evaluation system (SES) on a 0–9 scale (IRRI, 2014) after 90% of the plants in the susceptible check had wilted, where as in glass house conditions, seedlings were infested with 5–8 BPH nymphs (first to third instar) per plant and covered with wire mesh wooden cages (45 × 45 × 60 cm). Daily monitoring was continued until over 90% mortality occurs in the susceptible check TN1. Plants were then scored for BPH damage on a 0–9 scale as per IRRI SES (2014). Results: Out of 40 evaluated promising rice cultures 3 were found to be resistant viz., WGL 1929, WGL 1931, WGL 2042 and 8 were found to be moderately resistant viz., WGL 1927, WGL 1930, WGL 1939, WGL 1943, WGL 1946, WGL 1950, WGL 1956 and WGL 1963, whereas WGL 2113 and WGL 2123 were moderately susceptible to BPH under both field and glass house conditions. Conclusion: SSST is a rapid technique to identify the resistant rice cultures, these promising rice cultures can be utilized in breeding programmes.
