Multiple Intracranial Aneurysms: Experience of the Neurosurgery Department of Specialty Hospital, Rabat, Morocco

Abstract

Multiple intracranial aneurysms (MIA) are a cerebrovascular condition characterized by the presence of two or more aneurysms in the arteries of the brain. L’incidence des anévrismes cérébraux multiples est de 10,7 à 34 % des cas avec une hémorragie méningée ; les facteurs de risque sont représentés par l’hypertension artérielle, le tabagisme, le stress et aussi l’âge et le sexe féminin. The aim of this work is to report the experience of the Specialty Hospital of patients with multiple intracranial aneurysms, to discuss the epidemiological, clinical, diagnostic, and therapeutic aspects. This is a retrospective descriptive study, carried out within the neurosurgery department at the Rabat Specialty Hospital, over a period between January 2016 and December 2023. Multiple brain aneurysms pose an even greater risk than a single aneurysm because patients with multiple lesions have a higher associated mortality rate. Furthermore, in this group of patients, the risk of hemorrhagic recurrence of the initial aneurysm is greater and occurs earlier. The clinical condition of the patient and the size and location of the aneurysms are important factors that should be evaluated before surgery.
